Origins and Use
Reiki in the Western world has its origins in Japan owing to Dr Mikao Usui who in the 1920's initially developed the healing system we use and its roots can be traced back thousands of years. Reiki, pronounced Ray-Key, means "universal life-force energy" and dividing the word further can be explained as - Rei = soul/spirit life force, and Ki = air/breath.
Apart from our own body systems such as, our heart and circulation, our body is also alive because life-force energy is also flowing through it. If this life-force energy becomes low or blocked we are more likely to get sick but when our energy is high and free flowing we are generally more able to maintain our health and well being.
Reiki is described as a safe, gentle, hands-on healing technique that uses spiritual energy to treat physical ailments. It is, however, much more than a physical therapy; helping also to balance our emotions, psychological and spiritual aspects enabling us to become whole.
As Ki is present in all living things, even animals and plants may be treated!
One treatment can make a difference but it is more effective to have a course.
Stress is one of the major causes of disruption and weakening of "energy" caused by conflicting thoughts and feelings such as worry, anger, fear and anxiety eventually effecting this life-force energy.
